Relive the Transformation: Check Out the Highlights from WRITE! 26

Transforming the future of writing instruction

    With a passionate global community

WRITE! 26 brought together educators, leaders, and change-makers from around the world, all focused on a shared mission: transforming how students learn to write.  Over three days, the event offered a balance of practical insights and collaborative sessions. Attendees engaged directly with new strategies, turning the conference into an active forum for professional growth and shared best practice.

Dr. Ian Hunter delivered a compelling keynote on closing the writing gap and navigating the evolving landscape of Educational AI, while other powerful keynotes laid out a clear roadmap to writing transformation.  Beyond the main stage, nearly forty expert speakers led interactive workshops where participants collaborated and mapped out practical pathways for their classrooms.  Rather than just observing, attendees worked directly with the Writer’s Toolbox system to ensure they returned to their schools with actionable tools.

A distinct highlight of the experience was the School Visit Day, which took attendees north of Brisbane to visit three local Queensland schools.  This provided a firsthand look at the Writer's Toolbox framework operating at a whole-school level. Observing active classrooms allowed educators to see theory translate into practice, watching students confidently articulate their writing choices and teachers leverage the platform to drive measurable outcomes.

      Celebrating success

The sights and sounds of the WRITE! 26 Gala Dinner & Awards Night

Capping Day 1 of the conference, the focus shifted to celebration and connection at the Rivershed at Howard Smith Wharves.  Set against the backdrop of the Brisbane River and the Story Bridge, the WRITE! 26 Gala Dinner and Awards Night brought together educators from eight countries to network, unwind, and reflect on their shared commitment to tackle the global writing challenge.

The centrepiece of the evening was the presentation of the Writer's Toolbox Awards.  These awards recognised the outstanding achievements of visionary schools, passionate leaders, and dedicated educators who have made significant strides in writing outcomes over the past year.  The ceremony served as a powerful reminder of the impact individual teachers and schools have on student success every single day, drawing well-deserved recognition from their peers.

The evening concluded with dinner, conversation, and live music, giving attendees the space to strengthen professional relationships in a relaxed setting.  Teaching is an incredibly demanding role, and the Gala Dinner provided a meaningful opportunity to pause and celebrate those efforts.  The night underscored that WRITE! 26 was not just an educational event, but a supportive community dedicated to long-term collaboration.
